Often called the Curly, the Curly Coated Retriever is a breed from England, used for bird and waterfowl hunting. Taller than most retrievers, the Curly is covered with tight curls, close together all over its body. The Curly was one of the first two breeds recognized as a retriever.
All Curly Coated Retrievers are solid black or solid liver, but may have a sprinkling of white, but very little white, patches of white will disqualify dogs in the show ring. They can live in an apartment, if they get a long daily walk or a romp in the park with the kids. Grooming consists of keeping mats out of their coat with a regular combing and a clipping of extreme knots.
