The Dalmatian is said to have originated in the region of Dalmatia which is a region of Croatia and was first documented in 1792. This breed first appeared in England in 1862 and became very popular throughout Europe starting in the 1920s.

Many people know of the Dalmatian puppies for sale from the animated Walt Disney movie, “101 Dalmatians” and one of the most recognizable dog breeds due to their spotted coat. They were popular as carriage dogs in the 1800’s and then later became popular as a mascot dog for fire departments. The Dalmatian was recognized by the American Kennel Club (AKC) in 1888 and classified in the Non-Sporting Group.
