When looking for Welsh Springer Spaniel dogs puppies for sale, this breed may also be referred to as a Welsh Springer, Welsh Cocker Spaniel, or a Welshie.
The Welsh Springer Spaniel was bred as a working dog, specifically for the purpose of hunting. This breed originated in the country of Wales. The exact date of origin for this breed is unknown; however, pictures and writings as far back as 1570 were made referencing a breed of dog that resembles the Welsh Springer Spaniel with a distinctive red and white coat.
This Welsh Springer Spaniel has a slightly rounded head and square muzzle. They have oval shaped eyes and long ears set at eye level that hang along the cheeks. The tail of this breed is commonly docked shortly after birth. The coat colors of the Welsh Springer Spaniel come in any pattern combination of a distinctive red and white, many times the white area is flecked with red ticking.
The coat is soft, flat, and may be either straight or wavy with a feathering on chest, belly, back of legs, ears, and tail. The coat is fairly easy to maintain with regular brushing especially during the shedding season. This breed is considered an average shedder.
The Welsh Springer Spaniel is a compact, medium-sized dog ranging in height from 16 to 19 inches in height and weigh 35-45 pounds. This breed of dogs puppies for sale is prone the hip dysplasia, epilepsy, eye conditions, and prone to ear infections due to their long, hanging ears. Common eye disorder associated with this breed include being prone to entropion (a disorder that causes the eyelids to curl inwards and pressing the eyelashes against the eye surface causing damage to the cornea). There is no cure for entropion; however, surgery can be performed to correct the problem. Narrow/closed angle glaucoma is also a commonly inherited eye disorder associated with this breed.
The Welsh Springer Spaniel was recognized by the American Kennel Club (AKC) in 1914 and is classified as part of the Sporting Group.
The Welsh Springer Spaniel is often confused with the English Springer Spaniel. They are similar but there are marked differences primarily in the color of their coat. The Welsh Springer Spaniel is slightly smaller in size and their coat is red on a white background while the English Springer Spaniel has a black or livered color coat.
When you see Welsh Springer Spaniel dogs puppies for sale and make the decision to add a Welsh Springer Spaniel to your family, you will find the Welsh Springer Spaniel is very loyal and willing to please. This breed is also energetic and lively. The Welsh Springer Spaniel will do well in an apartment as long as there is plenty of regular exercise that includes a long, daily walk. This breed does best with access to an average-sized yard than in an apartment. Without a sufficient level of exercise, the Welsh Springer Spaniel will become bored, lazy, fat, and likely to develop behavioral issues.
The Welsh Springer Spaniel loves companionship, spending time with their family, very good with children, and generally good with other dogs and other family pets. They are also very protective of their family and make an excellent watchdog.
