The Carolina Dog is truly an “Old Yeller”. The Carolina dog has existed in the Americas for eight thousand years. The breed is believed to have arrived with the immigrants that crossed the Baring Strait land bridge. The Carolina Dog was brought into being by the mixing of native dogs and these Asian dogs. These types of dogs are classified as pariah dogs. The pariah dogs became a part of Native American culture. The Carolina Dog is quite primitive and still cannot be considered domesticated. The breed thrives in the deep South of the U.S. The Carolina Dog can be found along the Savannah River Basin area bordering Georgia and South Carolina. The piney woods and swamps have provided a safe haven for the breed to flourish. Scientist have and still study the Carolina Dog. The breed is known as “Old Yeller” by old timers in the South. They are referred to as America’s Dingo everywhere else. There are no puppies for sale. The Carolina dog resembles the Dingo a great deal. They come in a variety of colors, yellow being most common. They have seasonal coats; always short, but thicker in the winter than in the summer. The breed is not really an available breed. The Carolina Dog in its purest form is not domesticated. There are those that will tell you they have a Carolina Dog, and may even tell you it’s for sale. It is at best a dog that has in avertedly been fathered by one of these wild dogs. These Carolina Dogs are for the most part are feral in their purest form; just as they were centuries ago. There are no puppies for sale. The Carolina Dog has a standard length back, fit chest and well tucked up stomach. It has a long neck, great jaws, almond-shaped gloomy eyes with a malleable, smart, however “ready to act expression”, and big, vertical ears which are extremely movable. The Carolina Dogs are incredibly muscled and strong for their mass, presenting physically powerful, lively movement with a lot of force plus are extremely plastic and able to turn at once. The skin of Carolina`s is firm and the coat is small but thick. The Carolina Dog is one of the few breeds living today, that is really a primal dog, an effect of ordinary selection for survival in environment, moreover not of selective breeding. Natural specimens are still recognized, so this is not a totally domesticated canine. The Carolina Dog has survived as a liberated, alive animal in the Savannahs swamps and forests of South Carolina and Georgia.
