The Seppala Siberian Sleddog breed was recognized as a new “evolving breed” by the Agricultural Canada in the late 1990s. In 2002, a separate breed initiative was started in the United States. The Seppala Siberian Sleddog is a northern-type working dog. The Seppala Siberian Sleddog is not bred for their looks but for their ability to pull sleds. Compared to the Siberian Husky, the Seppala Siberian Sleddog is lighter in weight, have a less boxy body type, and longer legs. The ears are set high on the head and close together. The eyes may be brown, amber, blue, or a combination. The tail is carried high and curled over the back when the dog is alert. The Seppala Siberian Sleddog ranges in height between 22 and 23 inches and weighs between 40 and 50 pounds. This breed is very healthy and is not prone to develop health issues seen in other breed of this size such as hip dysplasia.
